A FESTIVE JOURNEY THROUGH THE REGION

Just a 15-minute drive from the estate, guests can stroll through Magical Maastricht on Vrijthof Square (until 29 December 2025) and enjoy a large covered ice rink, a 45-metre ferris wheel offering panoramic views over the city, cosy food chalets, an illuminated tunnel of lights and a selection of artisan stalls. With its warm atmosphere and charming decorations, Magical Maastricht is an ideal evening outing for guests looking to combine a festive stroll with gourmet dining in the city.

A 25-minute drive away, one of Europe’s most unique Christmas experiences awaits in Valkenburg (until 5 January 2026) where the famous underground marlstone caves are transformed into atmospheric Christmas markets. The Municipal Cave and Velvet Cave feature winding passages filled with decorated stalls, nativity scenes and handmade crafts. Above ground, the town comes alive with festive lights, Christmas parades and delightful seasonal installations.

Set against the backdrop of Aachen’s UNESCO-listed cathedral and the historic town hall, this traditional German Christmas market is renowned for its warm ambiance and distinctive local treats. Around 130 stalls fill the cobblestone squares with handcrafted gifts, festive decorations and regional specialties such as the famous Aachener Printen gingerbread. With its intimate atmosphere and cross-border charm, Aachen offers an authentic Christmas experience that feels both nostalgic and inviting.

Düsseldorf, Germany until 30 December 2025 (1 hour 20-minute drive)

Düsseldorf’s Christmas celebrations unfold across several beautifully decorated squares, each with its own style. Highlights include the traditional craftsmen’s market at Marktplatz, the nostalgic huts of the Altstadt and the impressive ice rink at Corneliusplatz. With more than 200 stalls offering everything from artisanal gifts to seasonal treats, Düsseldorf delivers a refined and lively Christmas atmosphere that appeals to both families and culture lovers.

Cologne, Germany until 4 January 2026 (1 hour 45-minute drive)

Cologne is home to several of Germany’s most celebrated Christmas markets, each with its own character. From the iconic Cathedral Market, framed by the soaring spires of the Cologne Dom, to the romantic Harbour Market on the Rhine and the charming Old Town Heinzels market, visitors can explore a variety of themes in one city. With millions of lights, live entertainment, ice skating and a vast selection of culinary delights, Cologne promises an unforgettable festive day trip.
